KACPER ABOLIK

Kacper Abolik is a visual reporter in our celebrity-obsessed age of information. Inspired by everything from the flow of Chinese characters, eastern ideology and spirituality, to the full gamut of 20th century artists. Kacper intertwines them with modern figures that we are all too familiar with. The notion of celebrity is undeniable to him, and his art of repurposing images will strike the viewer to take a different look at a person or work they had otherwise seen unnumberable times.

He works with a mission to simplify the outrageous world around us through his paintbrush. Kacper works relentlessly on his paintings, sometimes going 48 hours at a time.

“As an Information Age portrayer, Kacper works as a royal court painter depicting people of varying significance in contemporary society. His portraits capture the identity of his subjects while simultaneously portraying culture and technology as a means for both communicating feeling and a technique of grounding human existence. Additionally, he paints scans straight from his own consciousness and figure studies tied to art history, and in the case, Air Max. He has started to translate the composition of his paintings into sculpture.” ~NIKE AIR MOVES NYC

His work ethic & honed talent, have allowed him to transcend to a status that has made rare opportunities possible, such as having his art showcased on A$AP Rocky’s Instagram account.

On A$AP Rocky “The relationship between my paintings and A$AP Rocky’s Instagram really came through the ether. It was not initiated by any sort of direct contact, contract, or paperwork. It was a connection that transcended what one might think would take to start a relationship of that sort of sense. Posting these paintings daily, just by being out there on the internet, came to the attention of people required to move them into a zone, and it just so happened that the paintings of A$AP Rocky were seen by somebody within the A$AP collective, and it just sort of started from there organically. The A$AP Rocky paintings created a space that we’re working within, kind of pushing and pulling back and forth. One might think it’s uncorrelated, but it’s really tied together. How could I not paint A$AP Rocky? He’s literally everywhere. Ubiquity. Ubiquity is a word I’m thinking about a lot right now.”

On his philosophy and knowledge: “Just from various poets, living or dead. It seems as so that poets are quite receptive to revolutionize their situations. Are brands bad for us? Is there other types of people that are influencing me? Of course, all of art history, all at once.”

PENNSYLVANIA FARM & INSPIRATION

“Egon Schiele, Barnaby Ruhe, Alex Joué (emerging architect), Nick Godard, and Noah Violet are probably the key people who inspire me right now at this moment, through their movements and depictions of still beauty where the breath is absent, or changes to a deeper course connecting with the unconscious flow of inspiration, where you can be immensely influenced, lets say, by a real life on another planet or galaxy where you temporarily exist for a moment in a fleeting journey away from this reality.
Techniques come from playing with the paint, canvas, and subjects the way my body and hands flow as brushes, an extension of my soul through to the tip of the brush. It’s as if the technique is an art form itself watching myself paint, watching myself sleep, watching myself dream and becoming the happening itself transcending movement and purpose to source and back, then back again.”
