BLAIR SEAGRAM
Blair Seagram, born in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada has been fascinated by wide format images since 1995—she describes a family trip to the Yukon in which she "started clicking pictures left to right to get a bigger more inclusive image.
Inspired by that early experience, she has continued to create panoramic works exploring a wide range of subjects.
Seagram's work has been exhibited at institutions including the Parrish Art Museum, the Heckscher Museum of Art, and Sculpture Center.
Blair has been photographing surfers on the East End of Long Island and Hawaii for 12 years now. Her unique vision of surfers are photographed in time delay, reconstructing the image composites film in nature. The long panoramic prints allow us to visit the players in many different positions as we view. These action images are taken at Ditch Plains and Camp Hero, Montauk, a coveted spot for local and visiting surfers.
On a calmer day one sees images from Cameron Beach, Flying Point Beach in Sagaponack and Southampton, NY.
Her 2020 series, Strata, has a painterly quality in the way she has presented and printed these photographs.
In 2020 Blair participated in PechaKucha Nights, at The Parrish Museum, named for the sound of “chit-chat” in Japanese. Each invited presenter got 20 slides x 20 seconds per slide to talk about living creatively on the East End.
She currently resides and works in Sag Harbor, NY.
